Let’s Explore The Cause And Effect
The position of Earth’s magnetic north pole was first precisely located in 1831. Since then, it’s gradually drifted north-northwest by more than 600 miles (1,100 kilometers), and its forward speed has increased from about 10 miles (16 kilometers) per year to about 34 miles (55 kilometers) per year. This gradual shift impacts navigation and must be regularly accounted for.
At the moment, the north magnetic pole is headed for Siberia, and, no, this is not a Russian conspiracy. The map above gives us a good idea of where it has been for the past 600 years. Polar swaps have happened almost 200 times over the millennia, with approximately 200 to 300 thousand years in between shifts. But we are overdue for one as it has been 780 thousand years since the last one.
What is causing the magnetic pole(s) to shift? The swirling mass of molten iron material beneath the earth’s surface crust. It ebbs and flows in seemingly random patterns, resulting in fluctuations in magnetic forces.
Just before the pole swapping begins, the earth’s magnetic field begins to weaken. Scientists have evidence that this is happening now. As the magnetic field surrounding the earth weakens, more significant amounts of radiation from the sun find their way to the earth’s surface. There are obvious health concerns when radiation increases.
Some people have claimed that variations in Earth’s magnetic field are contributing to current global warming and can cause catastrophic climate change. However, the science doesn’t support that argument.
A pole swap can be chaotic for both man and beast. Many animals’ migratory patterns would be disrupted, weather patterns would shift dramatically, and technology, power grids, and communications systems would be drastically impacted. Should we worry? Spending a few minutes watching this video will tell you more.
