Take One: The Sphere, Las Vegas / Take Two: The Undersea Tunnels Of The Faroe Islands

Tuesdays are your chance to gain extra knowledge here at 3-Minutes A Day University. Here’s the deal: We will present two diverse topics each Tuesday in video format. Take One: The Sphere

• Owned by Madison Square Garden
• Inside the 516-foot-wide (157-meter-wide) Sphere, a high-resolution LED screen (the largest on earth!) wraps halfway around the 17,600-seat audience. 
• Of these 17,600 seats, 10,000 provide an immersive experience with a specialized sound system that makes guests “feel” sound vibrations.
• The Sphere proudly boasts having the world’s largest concert-grade audio system, comprising 1,586 loudspeaker modules, 167,000 speaker drivers, amplifiers, processing channels, and 300 mobile loudspeaker modules. 
• Not only is the interior of the building impressive, but its exterior also boasts 1.2 million hockey puck-sized LEDs that can be programmed to create dynamic and colossal image displays.

Take Two: The Undersea Tunnels Of The Faroe Islands

• The Faroe Islands—18 islands of various sizes connected by tunnels and ferries—are one of three autonomous territories in the Nordic Region. The landscape is rugged, with steep cliffs, grassy ridges, and few trees.
• Population: 53,090
• Form of government: Home rule – within the kingdom of Denmark
• Fishing is the most important industry in the Faroe Islands, and about 90% of exports consist of fishery products. Shipping and tourism are other important industries.
• The Faroe Islands have mild winters and cool summers. Weather and precipitation levels vary greatly from island to island, with most rainfall in the north.
• There are now 24 tunnels, of which four are long tunnels under the sea. Two more are already under construction; another 14 are on the drawing board or wish list.
